In an effort to control energy cost Franklin City applied for renewable energy funding.  Franklin was awarded with grants to retrofit the City office, white shop, and the red shop with increased insulation and updated heating systems.  The Grants also add solar power to the City's infrastructure.  This program has cut the Citys energy demands.

Franklin is the first permanent settlement in Idaho. It was founded by 13 Mormon Pioneer families in 1860. Today Franklin is a town with a population of about 600. The town is just south of the Cub River on the east side of Cache Valley. Franklin is located just between Preston, Idaho and Logan, Utah making it a short drive to civilization. Franklin's founding is celebrated at Idaho Days held the last weekend in June. The town enjoys a great view of the Bear River Mountain Range. The peaks are snow topped far into June! Children in Franklin go to Preston School District #201 and enjoy a great school atmosphere. So, welcome to Franklin, Idaho.... Idaho's oldest town.
